Review of Archive Conservation Training Scheme
We are reviewing the Archive Conservation Training Scheme. The scheme has been running since the 1970's, and is a valuable route into the profession, which has traditionally been open to trainees working within archives to develop their skills through placements in other archives under the instruction of ARA Registered Instructors.
Due to the reduction of conservation posts and the retirement of experienced professionals, alongside reductions in funding within the public sector, the scheme needs to adapt to continue to exist. More information about the current scheme can be found here: Archive Conservation Training Scheme — Archives & Records Association
Our appointed consultant, Rachel Marsh, has been asked by ARA to conduct the review and make recommendations to ensure we can continue to share and develop the specialist skills needed by archive conservators and the unique challenges they face. As part of this review, we need to gauge current understanding of the scheme, the capacity of archives to participate either through providing trainees, or trainee placements, and also the desire to maintain it.
Please take a few minutes to answer the 10 questions in this survey. Your views are very important to us, and the future of the scheme: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/736Q8CZ
The survey will close on Friday 25th April
Rachel will also be running a series of focus groups to discuss the review recommendations throughout late April and May.
